The Doma Tacoma!

— by Kim Davenport

My recent project – digitizing vinyl that has been hiding out in the collections of local libraries and historical societies – has uncovered another fun gem!

This novelty song, The Doma Tacoma, was written by local musician Arel Thomas and performed by The Kicks, a short-lived early-1980’s band, in honor of the opening of the Tacoma Dome in 1983:

Good luck getting lines such as this one out of your head: “…where the rock stars, jock stars, gonna make it big stars, play!”

Thank you to the Tacoma Historical Society for the loan of the 45-rpm album from their collection to allow me to digitize and share the audio. Photographs courtesy of Tacoma Historical Society and Tacoma Dome.
